  • Fitting of the Au 4f photoemission spectrum for the element (research grade), data were provided by Vincent Crist (The use of the spectrum requires acknowledging XPS library website, https://xpslibrary.com/, the data is copyrighted). The main peak was modeled by a doublet correlated with the DL line shape, and the second peak was modeled with the Gaussian line shape. The fit with this line shape allows the maxima of the 7/2 and 5/2 components to be resolved, but the second peak shifts to lower binding energies. This phenomenon also occurs in Ag. The total background was modeled with a combination of a Tougaard type background and the interchannel coupling with valence band losses background.
